E-Verify Down during Government Shutdown

Another effect of the government shut down is the inability for employers to run new employees through the E-Verify program. The program, which is mandatory in four of our states, is one of the programs that has been shut down due to the budget impasse on Capitol Hill. Employers are encouraged to run employees through the system once the funding has been restored. Employees are still obligated to fill out an I-9 form as always.

Likewise, any employee who received a tentative non-confirmation will not be able to resolve them. In this case, the clock stopped at midnight on Sept 1 and will not restart until agencies are again able to help employees resolve issues arising from E-Verify.
