In Memoriam: Roy Baxley

The cotton industry lost a true leader Sunday when LeRoy W. Baxley, Jr. (Roy) passed away. We will truly miss Roy. He was a friend and leader to both growers and ginners.

Services for LeRoy Wilson Baxley, Jr. will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Reedy Creek Presbyterian Church with burial in Alford Cemetery directed by Cooper Funeral Home. Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Baxley, 57, died Sunday, December 9, 2012 at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence.

Born in Bennettsville, SC, February 4, 1955, he was the son of the late LeRoy Wilson Baxley, Sr. and Marguerite Ammons Baxley. He was a member of Reedy Creek Presbyterian Church, Owner and Operator of Baxley & Baxley Farms, Co-owner of Minturn Cotton Company, and was the Chairman of the South Carolina Cotton Board.

Survivors include his wife, Cathy Seddinger Baxley of Dillon; daughter, Christina Baxley Jones of Ohio; sons, Daniel Wilson Baxley, and John Tyler Baxley, both of Dillon; grandchildren, Johnny, Jackson, Nina, and Sophie Jones; special cousins, Julia Johnson of Lake View, and Charles Thomas McLaurin of Clio.
