E-Verify Begins Monday in Two States

Monday is a big day for small employers in two of our states. North Carolina and Georgia both have the final phases of their immigration control laws kicking into effect. Both will require the use of E-Verify for the smallest groups of employers.

In Georgia, employers with 10 or more employees on January 1, should begin using E-Verify by Monday. In North Carolina, it begins for employers with 25 or more employees. North Carolina employers who hire temporary, seasonal workers for less than 90 days in a 12 month period or have 24 or fewer employees are exempt.

For more information on the NC law, go to http://www.nclabor.com/legal/e_verify.htm.

The E-Verify Site has a lot of good information, videos, webinars and training materials. Please make sure you read the terms of conditions of the Memorandum of Understanding. Remember that you can only E-Verify after a conditional offer of employment has been made and accepted and the I-9 has been completed.
